Converting From a Tank
Most tankless work in Brentwood is a conversion, not a like-for-like swap, and it is worth knowing up front that it is a bigger job than setting a new tank in the same spot. Three things usually have to change, and any quote that does not mention them is not a real quote.
The gas line
This is the one that catches people out. A tank heater might draw 40,000 BTU. A whole-house tankless unit draws three to five times that, all at once, because it heats on demand rather than slowly keeping a tank warm. The half-inch line that fed the old tank is frequently undersized for it, and the fix is a larger line run back to a point where the supply can carry the load. Venting and condensate
A tankless unit does not vent up the old flue. Condensing models vent through stainless or PVC, usually out a side wall, and they produce acidic condensate that needs a drain and often a neutralizer. That routing decides where the unit can physically go, which is why we want to see the space before quoting.
Sizing for a Brentwood house
Tankless is rated in flow at a given temperature rise, not gallons stored. Groundwater here arrives cold enough in winter that a unit sized on a summer number will disappoint in January.
