Testing, Repair and Replacement
A backflow preventer is a one-way gate between your property and the public water supply. Irrigation systems, commercial kitchens, boilers and fire lines all create cross-connections where water could otherwise flow backwards into the main, which is why utilities require these assemblies to be tested by a certified tester on a schedule.
We are certified to test, and we carry repair parts, so a failed assembly does not mean a second appointment and a second trip charge. If it can be repaired we repair it and retest the same visit. If it genuinely needs replacing we will tell you that plainly rather than selling you a rebuild that will not hold.
Installing a New Assembly
Not every call is a test. Plenty of properties need an assembly fitted for the first time: a new irrigation system, a commercial kitchen or boiler being added, a fire line, or a property where one was taken out years ago and the utility has since noticed.
Installing one is more than fitting a valve. The assembly has to suit the hazard, be sized for the flow, sit at the right height with room around it to be tested, and be protected from freezing. An assembly put somewhere awkward costs you on every annual test afterwards, because whoever tests it has to fight it first. We put them where they can be worked on.
Once it is in we test and certify it, so the installation and the first certification are one visit instead of two.

Common Questions
How often does a backflow preventer need testing?
Most jurisdictions require assemblies on commercial properties and irrigation systems to be tested annually by a certified tester, and your water utility will usually send a notice when yours is due. If you are not sure whether your property has an assembly or when it was last certified, call us and we will find out.
What actually happens during a test?
We isolate the assembly, connect a calibrated test kit to the test cocks, and check that each check valve and the relief valve hold pressure the way they are supposed to. It takes a few minutes per assembly. If it passes we file the certification; if it fails we tell you what failed and what it takes to fix it.
What if it fails the test?
Usually a rubber seat, a spring, or a check assembly has worn out, and a repair kit sorts it. Occasionally an assembly is old enough or damaged enough that replacement is the honest answer. Either way you get the price before we do the work, and we retest and certify once it is repaired.
Why does backflow prevention matter?
A backflow preventer stops water flowing the wrong way back into the public supply. On an irrigation system that could mean fertilizer and standing groundwater; on a commercial property it could be far worse. That is why the testing requirement exists and why utilities enforce it.
Do you handle the paperwork with the utility?
Yes. We are certified to test and we file the certification for you. You should not have to chase your own compliance paperwork.
Do you install new assemblies, or only test them?
Both. We install new assemblies for irrigation systems, commercial kitchens, boilers and fire lines, size and site them so they can actually be tested later, and certify the installation on the same visit.
Does my irrigation system need a backflow preventer?
Almost certainly. An irrigation system is a textbook cross connection: the heads sit in standing water, fertilizer and whatever else is on the lawn, and if the main loses pressure that can be drawn back toward the drinking supply. Utilities treat irrigation as a hazard for exactly that reason, and most require a tested assembly on it.
