Your water service line is the single pipe carrying everything from the city meter to your house, and it is the homeowner’s responsibility rather than the utility’s. It is also buried, which means it usually fails quietly. Pressure drifts down over months, or a patch of lawn stays soft, long before anything obvious happens.
A lot of Nashville housing stock built before 1990 still runs on galvanized steel or polybutylene. Galvanized corrodes from the inside and slowly chokes off flow; polybutylene becomes brittle and splits. Neither fails once and stops, which is why we would rather look at the whole run than sell you a spot repair that buys six months.

Common Questions
How do I know if my water service line is failing?
The usual signs are pressure that has dropped across the whole house rather than one fixture, discolored water, a patch of yard that stays wet or unusually green, or a water bill that climbed with no change in how much you use. Older galvanized lines corrode from the inside and lose diameter long before they actually leak.
What drives the cost of a water line replacement?
Length of the run, depth, and what sits on top of it. A straight run through open lawn is one job. The same line under a driveway, sidewalk or established landscaping is another, because hard surfaces have to be cut to reach the line. We can refer you to a contractor to repair those afterwards. On grassy areas we backfill, pack it down, and spread seed and hay. Permits and the connection at the meter also factor in.
Can you repair a section instead of replacing the whole line?
Sometimes, and if a spot repair is genuinely the right answer we will tell you. But if a galvanized or polybutylene line has failed once it will usually fail again somewhere else, and repairing it a section at a time tends to cost more over a few years than replacing it once.
Is this the same as repiping my house?
No, and the distinction matters. The service line is the pipe running underground from the meter to the house. A repipe is the supply pipework inside the walls. Different job, different cost, and you can need one without the other. If you are looking at interior pipework, that is our whole-house repiping service.
Do you handle permits and the water utility?
Yes. Service line work generally requires a permit and an inspection, and we handle that as part of the job rather than leaving it with you.
