Can I put coffee grounds and peelings down it?
Grounds and starchy peelings are the two that cause us the most callouts. Neither breaks down the way people assume: grounds settle and pack into a sludge further along the pipe, and potato peel turns to paste. Grease is worse again, because it goes down warm and sets on the pipe wall. The disposal is for what comes off a plate, not for emptying the chopping board.
How long should a garbage disposal last?
